MEET Steve Jayson We received a letter from one of the brighter young lights of the phy- sique world recently, one Steve Jayson. This young man is nothing if not energetic. He is his own model, photographer and man- ages and promotes his own studio. A bachelor (still') Steve neither drinks nor smokes, and works out regularly with weights. He tells us that he hopes to continue his career in commercial art and photography, and judg- ing from his present progress, we do not doubt that he will suc- ceed. 6

For Expart WITE CARE Just as any other folk or semi-folk art form, tattooing lags behind, but inevitably follows, the trends in the greater world of fine art. HIM was launched by the Editors of MAN ALIVE and SCAN- as a quarterly to bring back photographs, drawings or articles that had especially excited your attention when they had first been introduced in the older magazines. And you will find that whatever you write and praise in SCAN or MAN ALIVE will be appearing in even more exciting "big-size" perspective in HIM. We are also receiving a volume of encouragement for our other main idea which is to make HIM a sophisti- cated guide to all that's best for a MAN-for his health, clothes to wear, things to do, places to go. To glean the data and breadth of experience needed for such a venture the Editor toured Europe during the last two years and then set sail for the Western Hemisphere. He arrived in New York aboard the Cunarder "Queen Mary" complete with a British Daimler Sports Car which is almost unique in England and right-hand- drove it into the mêlée of metropolitan traffic for an exciting month, before heading Southwest to "see the rest of the country." With the appearance of these fun-pix from and of young Steve, he will be a very well- known and supremely popular successor to the ranks of Glenn Bishop, Steve Wengryn, Dick Stryker et al. Again, for fear of re- peating ourselves, we can only say, we have never received such enthusiastic co-opera- tion from any studio or model. Steve is Polish-Dutch, which makes hirm more Euro- pean than your Editor! OHA 9 calls Steve Jayson He's 18 and a blond bombshell in the Bodybuilding battle, who runs his own studio, stable of models, ap- pears in EVERY Physique magazine there is and on the covers of many, is (we think) his own best model and has a great talent for pleasing his customers. JAYSON says" Aloha, Everyone!" Well we knew Americans were friendly-that's maybe why we came over here, but all across from Hawail, in the shape (and what a shape!) of a blond blue-eyed 6' 2" Polish-Dutch native of Albany, New York, came the biggest hand-shaking, back-slap- ping, bear-hugging (or maybe we should say bare-hugging for what little they seem to wear in Hawaii!) welcome we could imagine. ADONIS OF THE ISLANDS! Maybe we shouldn't call him 'Island Adonis.' He doesn't really hail from the Hawaiian Islands, his name is Steve Jayson, and his real pad is in li'l ol' Albany, New York. Steve did make the scene in Hawaii last summer, how- ever, and the groovy results of this swinging encounter are in these wonderful shots he brought back. 18
