Gaudenzio Marconi 1841-1885 was an early photographer who did figure studies for the likes of Rhodin.Photograph by GaudenzioMarconi (c.1860). Marconi sold photographs of models to students at the École des beaux-arts in Paris. Artists often sketched from photographs when life models were not available. Here, the model is posed to look like the Roman Barberini Faun statue.French court records of 1873, archived at the Tribunal Correctionnel de Paris documents that Pierre Pagnon was put on trail for selling & distributing Gaudenzio Marconi’s photographs which “corrupted public morality” inevitably, both were heavily fined & spent 6 months in prison.
