August Nyet by Gaudenzio Marconi

A well worn photograph from 1877 by Gaudenzio Marconi of the soldier Auguste Neyt, who was cheaper than a professional model to hire, taken especially for the famous sculptor Rodin to use as a working study for his acclaimed bronze nude entitled “The Age of Bronze”.

Rodin had been accused of casting from life, so Gaudenzio produced the full set of photos from which the sculpture was made as well as Marconi’s own photo of the sculpture signed by Rodin.
