Taking on the mantle of Hercules as Mark Forest had everyone in 1960 wondering if Lou Degni was the next Steeve Reeves.
LOU DEGNI by Bruce of LA “WINNERTAKE ALL” Some time ago when the idea for this article came about I had been examining some recent photographs of Louis Degni, the 21 year old Apollo. As I was admiring the unusual quality of the posing I kept saying to myself “Why his face is the living image of the film star, Louis Jourdan.” Upon further reflection it occurred to me that he also facially resembled Steve Reeves, and his physique was in many ways comparable to the 1947 Mr. America. Having concluded my exami- nation, an opinion which I had been conjuring for a long time suddenly became crystallized in this… we do a great injustice to my mind. And that is a ranking bodybuilder when we continually try to compare him with some favorite of ours.. when we try to cast him in the same mold as our hero. (Continued on Page 52)
