Von Pluschow immediately took a liking to the Galdi brothers, taking in young Vincenzo as a live in lover and teaching him the arts of photography at his studio in Rome in the years before 1900.
Von Pluschow made extensive use of Galdi‘s Mediterranean good looks in his roman-themed Ragazzi series, and ultimately extensively photographed him before moving to Algeria in 1915.
When Vincenzo and his brother opened their own studio in Rome in 1900, their work was distinguished by an increasing degree of explicitness not present in either Wilhelm von Gloeden or his cousin’s work.
Galdi was the first photographer in Italy to publish photographs of men who were erect.

As his career went on suggestive slowly blossomed into hardcore pornography until ultimately he crossed the invisible line and wound up in jail for obscenity.

The earliest known depections of hardcore oral sex were submitted at Galdi’s trial in 1907.
Vincenzo Galdi was heavily fined and his studio closed as he was imprisoned for several months in 1907.
